In the last year of his studies at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in Philadelphia, Rabbi Jonathan Kligler of the Woodstock Jewish Congregation (WJC) noticed a posting that the fledgling local synagogue was seeking a student rabbi to lead services once a month. A year later, once a month had turned into twice a month and when Bard College advertised for a Jewish chaplain two years after that, Kligler figured out a way to cobble together the two part-time jobs so that he and his wife, the visual artist Ellen Jahoda, could move to Woodstock.
