The Clearwater organization’s continuing mission is to inspire and energize the next generation of environmental leaders, and to protect and preserve the Hudson River environs. The sloop has become “America’s Environmental Flagship,” named to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004 for its role in the environmental movement.
This month, the Clearwater will revisit the sloop’s historical role as a cargo vessel, delivering not only music and education, but also food donations to local food banks. The public is invited to bring non-perishable food items to Pumpkin Sail events that will be delivered at the next port of call, replenishing both grocery items and communal goodwill to the many river towns affected by the floodwaters of recent tropical storms. For more information about Clearwater’s food donation drive, please contact Maija Niemisto at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (845) 265-8080, extension 7115.
