The 150th anniversary of the New Paltz Rural Cemetery will be celebrated with two events on the weekend of July 2-3. A re-dedication ceremony will take place at the cemetery on July 2 at 1 p.m. Rod Dressel Sr., president of the Cemetery Board, will preside over the ceremony and the Rev. Howard Major will re-read the original dedicatory address given by the Rev. Charles Stitt in 1861. Carol Roper, the secretary of the Cemetery Board, will give a short history of the cemetery and Tim Copeland will talk about the future of the cemetery. Barbara Hardgrave will be singing the National Anthem and The Battle Hymn of the Republic. Refreshments will be served.
On Sunday, July 3, Carol Johnson and Susan Stessin-Cohn will be giving a tour of the cemetery at 4 p.m. Their tour will focus on the Civil War soldiers that are buried in the cemetery. The tour will be highlighted with readings, photos and memorabilia of the brave men who fought in America’s most bloodiest war. Both events are free and open to the public. New Paltz Republicans looking for candidates
The New Paltz Republican Party is still accepting resumés from candidates interested in running for the position of town justice, highway superintendant, town board, town clerk or supervisor in the November election. BOE seeks volunteers to serve on Health Advisory Committee
The New Paltz School District’s Board of Education is looking for interested persons to fill four vacancies for the 2011-2013 school years on the Health Advisory Committee. The committee advises the school district on plans and programs related to the health of the school community including nutrition, health and wellness, safe and drug-free schools, HIV advisory council, SAVE’s School Safety Plan and Code of Conduct. The four membership vacancies are to be filled by a representative from each of the following sectors for a two-year term:
Parent of district student, community-safety sector, community at large and private school representative

Gardiner Democratic Caucus on July 8
The Gardiner Democratic Caucus will take place on Friday, July 8, 7 p.m., in the Gardiner Town Hall. Nominations for the positions of town supervisor, two town board seats, town judge and highway department supervisor will be accepted. Only registered Democrats residing in Gardiner may vote. The Gardiner Democratic Committee has endorsed Carl Zatz for supervisor, Warren Wiegand and Mike Reynolds for town board and judge Bruce Blatchly for town judge.
Route 213 in Rosendale to close temporarily
The New York State Department of Transportation will close State Route 213, between Cottekill Road and Binnewater Road in Rosendale, beginning Tuesday, July 5 for construction. The closure will remain in effect until approximately Aug. 4. Motorists are advised to plan their trips accordingly and use the posted detours.
Fire department to hold car show and flea market
The New Paltz Fire Department will hold its car show and flea market on July 17 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at its station at the corner of Henry W. DuBois Drive and North Putt Corners Road. The event will also feature a safety demonstration, food, drinks and a DJ. Car show registrants can register on the day of the event or in advance at Fundraising@Newpaltzfire.org.
St. Joseph’s Festa July 14-16
The St Joseph’s Italian Festa will be held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday -- July 14, 15 and 16 -- from 6 to 11 p.m. at the church located at 34 South Chestnut Street in New Paltz. Seniors present scholarships
The New Paltz-Gardiner Seniors presented two scholarships to Ulster County BOCES School of Practical Nursing students at their pinning ceremony on June 9. The students acknowledged their appreciation to the seniors for the scholarships.

New Paltz Middle School discount cards
The New Paltz Middle School PTA will be selling discount cards throughout the summer. The card includes discounts to many local businesses. A portion of the proceeds will go toward scholarships, cultural arts and other programs.
