The James Cox Gallery will be continuing its stunning show of classic Japanese woodblock prints until March 6. Titled “The Floating World: Art of Japanese Printmaking,” the show of more than 70 works, drawn from private collections, highlights two centuries of ukiyo-e (meaning “pictures of the floating world”) and its images of kabuki actors, historic scenes, landscapes and visual narratives of famous warriors and women of pleasure. In its mixture of soft- and hard-edged themes, the exhibit points to the deep roots of newly popular manga and anime artists, and has proven successful with fans of both vital contemporary artforms.
The James Cox Gallery is located on Route 212 just west of the hamlet of Willow, in the town of Woodstock. For hours and further information, call (845) 679-7608 or visit www.jamescoxgallery.com.
