The community organizers timed it right! With temperatures dropping and all precipitation turning frosty, it is indeed time to throw a street-long party in Rosendale – which begs the question: When isn’t it time to throw a party in Rosendale? In any case, Frozendale Daze returns to the sometimes-quiet village on Sunday, December 5 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and for the seventh year running, the onset of winter will be celebrated in the fun-and-funky style for which Rosendale is known.

Main Street will be the locus of all family activities and events not to be missed, with the hub of action taking place in the old cigar factory. Inside, you’ll find the fifth annual Winter Gift Sale, live music and homemade treats. Among the many offerings for sale: buttons, hula hoops, pottery, knits, massage and massage gift certificates, tee-shirts, jewelry, Pagan goods, prints, photos, magnets, crystals, wraps, stationery and more. There will also be showings at the ROOS, Lovebird Studios and Rock City Art galleries. Shoppers will have the opportunity to support local artists, local shops and local art galleries during the holiday season.

Free mugs of hot cocoa and photos with Santa Claus will be available at Town Hall, while the Rosendale Library will be offering origami instruction. Market Market will be serving cookies and hot drinks, too. Come check out the puppet museum at Redwing Blackbird Theatre, and don’t miss the free movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, to be screened in the Rosendale Theatre at 2 p.m. (rated PG-13; kids under 11 must be accompanied by an adult.) Come dressed as a pirate and stop in at Big Cheese on your way out!

With live music, including Shana Falana, Erica Quitzow, VOCE, Jude Roberts, the Buvas and the strolling Woodcrest Brass Band, a poetry reading by Will Nixon at Canal Town Alley, kids’ activities, haywagon rides, cookie-decorating at the Rosendale Café and of course, an appearance by Santa himself, an afternoon in Frozendale promises to be a heartwarming one. And don’t forget: A toy drive will be in progress at the Bloomington Firehouse on Route 32 north of town, from noon to 5 p.m. For further information contact frozendale2010@gmail.com.
